Many people are interested in tango (and rightly so 😉) – and ask themselves exactly this question: Do I need a dance partner just to get started? The short answer: No, you can learn tango even without a regular partner. And that’s exactly what we do here in Zurich at La Pantera. Can tango even work without a partner? Yes, of course. While travelling over the weekend, I decided to go dancing — tango, of course. I searched online for local milongas and found one taking place at a nearby hotel. As I drove up to the hotel entrance, I noticed a beautiful outdoor dance floor and a bar in the garden, where many elegantly dressed people were gathered. I walked straight from the car to the bar, where a woman immediately started talking to me, and we went dancing. After a few steps, I realised she was a complete beginner in tango — but that was fine. As an architect, I was looking for a hobby which would be able to calm me down after a day full of stress and responsibility and allow me to use my creativity. Dancing tango is creating new sensations in every step.

Leading and following – the too completely different sides of tango. Both active, both to the same extent important, yet so complementary. And still – both of us take the full responsibility for the wellbeing of the couple. Being able to lead AND follow gives us deep insights for mindful teaching.

I love making compliments to ladies (without ulterior motives), which they receive far too little. Furthermore Tango is my perfect cardio workout – without even realizing the effort.
